The year 2013 begins with a number of new changes and developments for our journal European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry. Over the past 18 months the EAPD Board have had meetings with several publishers with a view to the professional publication and distribution of our journal. As editor I am very pleased that we begin 2013 with Springer as our publisher. This was announced in the October 2012 issue of the journal and again in the December issue. We have a new cover to reflect our new partnership with Springer. The online submission and tracking system will enable a much simpler submission process for authors. Please visit the site at the journal webpage at: http://www.springer.com/medicine/dentistry/journal/40368 for further information, including revised instructions for authors. All fully paid-up members will receive the printed version of the journal as well as having access to the online version via the well-known SpringerLink platform and in addition via the EAPD website as for previous years. Student members who pay a much reduced subscription fee will only receive the online version of the journal. The distribution of our journal will now be far greater than we could achieve on our own, reaching several thousand libraries via the existing network that Springer has in place.

As an Academy the journal is our strength and we continue to need everyone to submit top-quality articles. This is especially important as we plan with Springer to submit in the future to Thompson Scientific for an impact factor. This is the top priority of the EAPD Board and all the members. Many changes have taken place in the development of our journal and further changes will take place as we continue to develop. I urge all members to encourage their institutions and libraries to take out institutional subscriptions to our journal, which will help increase our readership even further and hence also increase article citations.

In 2012 some 169 articles were submitted for publication in European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry, which is a new high for our journal and an increase from last year’s record of 104 submissions. The rejection rate for 2012 was 42 %. The number of papers submitted to the journal has now more than doubled in the 2 years since I took over as editor and I am certain it will increase even further in 2013. On behalf of the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who acted as a reviewer during 2012.
