Résumé
Les bénéfices de la pratique d’une activité physique (AP) régulière en endurance sont bien démontrés chez le senior, notamment en termes de réduction des pathologies cardio-vasculaires. La question de la prévention de la dépendance par la pratique d’une AP reste débattue. L’AP a chez la personne âgée un effet favorable sur la force (la préhension), la fonction (la vitesse de marche) mais semble a voir un effet plus aléatoire sur les besoins d’aides pour réaliser les activités quotidiennes (la dépendance). La nature, le type, l’intensité et la fréquence de l’AP pour prévenir la dépendance restent débattus. Il semble que chez les sujets âgés « fragiles » les interventions multi-modales (AP en endurance, résistance et exercices de flexibilité) dans le cadre d’une évaluation et d’une prise en charge gériatrique standardisée apportent les meilleurs résultats.
