The Aronson paper is confusing. In one place, Aronson and her colleagues argue that studies “must include a representative sample of the overall population to determine the number of Jews within the population and a representative sample within the Jewish community to ensure that its diversity is reflected. “In other places, the Buffalo and Seattle studies are presented as examples of acceptable studies, yet neither meets the representation tests.
Researcher Joseph Waksberg did the pioneering work on sampling theory applied to Jewish population research.
