Abstract
The author was the mediator of a two-year project wherein 100 academics from around the world collaborated electronically, over three rounds, on the composition of a multi-authored manuscript. In this article, he relies on this international experience to promote various ideas that could help democratise academic authoring and publishing activities. These ideas help rethink academic journals from the perspective of ‘socialism’, promoting social ownership of academic journals and social participation in the shaping of their policies.
