Conclusions

The results after radical prostatectomy currently are very good but could be better. There is no question that surgical technique is important in decreasing morbidity and improving outcomes. The same principles apply regardless of surgical approach. Ultimately, there may be little difference in the important outcome measures regardless of the approach used. Exploration of innovative approaches and techniques should be encouraged but measured by their effect on outcome rather than assumed improvements or promotional efforts.
