Living kidney donation

Who is suitable and who is not?

Abstract

Living kidney donation has been an essential part of nearly all transplantation programs in Germany since 1995. Good postoperative results lead to an extension of indications for donors. Currently established guidelines have some weak points because donor age and contraindications for donation are not very well balanced. In the future it will be important to evaluate and consider the long-term outcome of the donors better in order to establish age-related evidence-based guidelines for kidney donors.
