With this, the first 2014 issue of Voluntas, we will be increasing the number of annual issues from four to six. This reflects the increasing success of the journal and its position as one of the most prominent of its kind in the international field of voluntary and nonprofit sector scholarship. When I became Editor-in-Chief of Voluntas in 2010, the journal was not indexed in ISI and consequently had no impact factor. That changed in 2011, and our impact factor has increased since; Voluntas is now ranked as number 20 of 39 social issues journals.

The growth of the journal since 2010 has been impressive also in terms of submitted and published articles. Since the number of available slots in the journal is limited, the increase in submissions—even when publishing six issues a year—entails greater selectivity of admissions and hopefully of the quality of the published articles.

With this 2014 issue, Voluntas has much to celebrate thanks to the collective efforts of authors, reviewers, book review editor, members of the editorial board, and publisher. I want to use this opportunity to express my particular gratitude to our authors and reviewers. They make a substantial and irreplaceable contribution to the journal and are the origin of its success and continued progress.
