Abstract

Sexual satisfaction is one of the indicators of life satisfaction. This study aimed at determining the sexual satisfaction and its influencing factors among fertile and infertile women in Shahroud. In this cross-sectional study, 1528 participants (1017 fertile women and 511 ones with fertility problems) were studied using Larson Sexual Satisfaction Scale. The data were analyzed using ordinal logistic regression and Chi square tests at the significance level of 0.05. Among the participants, 23.8 % (N = 364) had primary infertility, 9.6 % (N = 147) had secondary infertility and 66.6 % (1017) had no fertility problem. Results indicated that 11.7 % (N = 179) of the participants had low sexual satisfaction, 48.6 % (N = 742) had moderate sexual satisfaction, and 39.7 % (N = 607) had high sexual satisfaction. Results also showed that women’s education and husbands’ jobs could increase the odds of sexual satisfaction ratings 4.78 and 2.38 times, respectively, while high income decreased the odds of sexual satisfaction. Moreover, no significant relationship was observed between place of residence, occupation, spouse’s job, income and sexual satisfaction with fertility status in the fertile group and the one with fertility problems (P > 0.05). But, a significant relationship was observed between education, spouse’s education and fertility status in infertile and fertile groups (P < 0.05). Since sexual satisfaction is moderate in both groups, it can be concluded that fertility problems do not lead to lower sexual satisfaction.
