This issue marks the transfer of editorial responsibilities to John Carranza. John is known to many of you through his publications on spatial data analysis and geochemistry and as guest editor for Computers & Geosciences, Journal of Geochemical Exploration, Ore Geology Reviews, Resource Geology, and Geochemistry: Exploration, Environment, Analysis. John brings experience, energy, and enthusiasm for his new role and I look forward to seeing the fruits of his efforts.

Accordingly, this issue brings to a close my role as interim editor. I took over from Keith Long earlier this year when he had to resign due to illness. Keith did a masterful job as editor; watching each issue appear and digging into the NRR editorial website, I can see he has greatly improved the throughput and scope of the manuscripts since 2009 when I was editor.

Editorship is quite different from authorship or reviewing and I have learned much during my editorial stints at NRR. I thank the IAMG for these opportunities to learn and support the society’s objective “to promote international cooperation in the application and use of mathematics in geological research and technology.” I look forward to seeing all NRR editors, Keith, John, Dan Merriam, and Dick McCammon at the next meeting in Spain, where we can wax lyrical about NRR editorship.
