Abstract

A new solvent impregnated resin (SIR) was prepared using Amberlite XAD-16 in contact with 1:1 mixed-ligands of 1, 4-diaminoanthraquinone and 1, 4-dihydroxyanthraquinone. The SIR showed appropriate selectivity toward U(VI) and Th(IV) ions when packed in the columns at pH 6.5 and 5, respectively. U(VI) and Th(IV) ions were then easily separated through the elution by 2 and 4 M HCl with the detection limits of 1 × 10−9 and 2 × 10−9 M, respectively. The recoveries for the spiked amounts of these ions to the granite rock and natural water samples were >95 %, which confirmed applicability of the proposed method.
