Abstract

By reaction of cerous nitrate with oxalic acid in the presence of surfactant polyvinylpyrrolidone at room temperature, lamellar cerium oxalate complex was obtained facilely. After calcination, CeO2 was produced, which inherited its parents’ morphology and was assembled by porous micro-nano lamellas. The as-prepared lamellar CeO2 had narrow pore distributions with pore diameters being 2.0–10.0 nm and exhibited good photocatalytic property for degrading Rhodamine B solution under UV radiation. The electrochemical measurements of hemoglobin immobilized on CeO2-Nafion modified glassy carbon electrode revealed a typical surface-controlled thin-layer electrochemical behavior of the lamellar CeO2. Moreover, the modified electrode showed excellent bioelectrocatalytic activity for H2O2 reduction.
