The authors regret that Equation 1, which shows how the raw phenotypic correlation between two behaviours is a function of the between-individual correlation, the within-individual correlation, and their between- and within-individual variances was erroneously attributed to Snijders and Bosker (1999).
Snijders and Bosker (1999, pp. 26–35) detailed that macro-level correlations are composed of different micro-level correlations, such as between- and within-group correlations. Equation 1 in its current form corresponding to within-individual and between-individual components and applied for the interpretation of phenotypic correlations of behaviours was first derived by Dingemanse et al. (2012).
