A technique of calculating the processes of suction and discharge in positive-displacement compressors and pumps is developed on the basis of the first law of thermodynamics of a body of variable mass written for a moving flow. The technique takes into account the influence of external heat exchange, deformation work, and processes of mass exchange as well as the transformation of the potential energy of pressure into the kinetic energy of a flow. Different cases illustrating the application of the newly developed technique are considered and recommendations for its use are given.
