Notes

  1. Related problems haunt the DSM-5 and likely the ICD-11 distinction of “pedophilic disorder” and “pedophilia” per se, certainly in the light of APA’s corrigendum to the DSM-5 (in an October 31, 2013 news release) suggesting that any seeming applicability of the notion of “sexual orientation” to “pedophilic disorder” was to be regarded a “text error.” The news release curiously did not resolve whether the APA condones the former’s application to “pedophilia” per se (as it in fact was in the DSM-5) or indeed “paraphilia” per se.

  2. The specific sense of “ego-dystonic pedophilia” is to be credited to Hirschfeld who alluded to the possibility already in 1907.

  3. The taxonomical specification of “pedophilic homosexuality” was still current by the early 1970s, at least in the German literature (e.g., Callahan & Leitenberg, 1973; Roeder, Orthner, & Müller, 1972).
