Abstract

This paper reviews the use of capacitive cross-coupled oscillator in the design of wide locking-range injection-locked frequency dividers (ILFDs). The advantages of capacitive cross-coupled ILFDs as compared to direct cross-coupled ILFDs are lower power consumption and wider locking range. Experimental examples of CMOS divide-by-2, divide-by-3 and divide-by-4 ILFDs are used to demonstrate the RF performance improvement by using this circuit topology.
