In the winter of 2012 and spring 2014, two essentially different international groups of scientists and engineers assembled in Tehran, Iran and Sorrento, Italy, respectively, at meetings to review, to discuss, and to exchange ideas on how to solve problems that currently limit the performance of composite materials in service across a broad spectrum of applications.
A selection of those papers presented on the science and technology of composite materials and composite structures were reviewed by a cross-section of international expertise and the chosen papers are published in this issue of the journal Applied Composite Materials.
Thanks go to the two principal organizers of these separate meetings for overseeing the successful transfer of the invited conference papers to becoming accepted and updated full-length journal papers, reproduced as a new version of the work presented in Sorrento and Tehran.
