Beginning with Volume 15 (2015) the journal Invertebrate Neuroscience will change its article structure from paginated issues to a new model called “Continuous Article Publishing.”

Instead of a consecutive pagination of articles throughout a volume, each article will have an internal pagination beginning with page 1. Every article will also have an Article Citation ID number, which will be used to identify it. The Article Citation ID will replace the page numbers in the citation line shown on the front page if each article:

Example:

Old: Invert Neurosci (2014) 14:51–58

New: Invert Neurosci (2015) 15:1234

As a result, articles will be available with their full and final citation information as soon as they have been published online. Springer’s Online First mode, which uses the online publication of unpaginated articles, will become obsolete. This change will not affect the time from acceptance to online publication of an article, but since the articles will be published online in their final form, and will no longer have to wait for pagination, the overall publication time will become shorter.

We strongly believe that Invertebrate Neuroscience will benefit from this change and that the new system will also simplify referencing of articles in the long run.
