Abstract

In this review article the advantages and disadvantages of a novel instrumentation technique for root canal preparation as described by G. Yared will be discussed. In the past 3 years many articles have been published on the use of a single nickel-titanium (NiTi) instrument with alternating (reciprocating) movement for mechanical canal preparation. In comparison to continuous rotation, NiTi instruments (e.g. Reciproc® and WaveOne®) seem to have superior mechanical properties when used in reciprocating motion.
