Zusammenfassung
Arbeitslosigkeit geht mit einem erhöhten Risiko für psychischen Distress und psychiatrische Störungen einher, die individuelles Leid und gesellschaftliche Kosten verursachen. Diese selektive Übersicht stellt die Zusammenhänge zwischen Arbeitslosigkeit und seelischem Befinden sowie psychiatrischen Störungen dar. Die wichtigsten Ansätze zur Verbesserung der psychischen Gesundheit Arbeitsloser werden skizziert:

Interventionen für Arbeitslose zur Stärkung von Copingstrategien beugen vor allem der Entwicklung depressiver Symptome vor.

Die SUPPORT-Liaison-Ambulanz stellt eine eng mit dem JobCenter vernetzte, niederschwellige psychiatrische Ambulanz dar, mit der Aufgabe, Arbeitslose auf psychiatrische Störungen zu untersuchen und sie, falls notwendig, zur Therapie zu motivieren.

Ein Gruppentraining – basierend auf der kognitiven Verhaltenstherapie – ist ein geeignetes Instrument, um die seelische Gesundheit teilnehmender Arbeitsloser zu verbessern.

Supported-Employment-Programme zeigen sich effektiv in der Platzierung von chronisch schwer kranken psychiatrischen Patienten in Arbeit, wobei eine umfangreiche unterstützende Begleitung angeboten wird.
Summary
Unemployment is related to a higher risk for psychological distress and mental disorders, which cause individual suffering and socioeconomic costs for society in general. This selective review surveys the relationship between unemployment and psychological well-being and mental disorders. The most important programs for the improvement of the mental health of the unemployed are summarized:

Interventions for the unemployed with the aim of improving coping strategies reduce the risk of developing depressive symptoms.

The SUPPORT liaison outpatient unit collaborates closely with the unemployment agency and offers a low-threshold screening for mental disorders for unemployed subjects as well as counseling for those in need of treatment.

A group training based on cognitive behavioral therapy improves the psychological well-being of unemployed participants.

4.
Supported employment is an effective means of placing severely mentally ill patients in a work-place accompanied by an extensive professional support.
