Het risico op belangrijke congenitale afwijkingen bij kinderen die via intracytoplasmatische sperma-injectie (ICSI) verwekt zijn, is tweemaal groter dan bij een natuurlijke bevruchting. Deze bevinding is afkomstig van Amerikaanse onderzoekers die een cohort van 301 kinderen verwekt
