Depression in children and adolescents. The state of the art after twenty–five years of research

The current state of the art with respect to theory and research in the domain of depression in children and adolescents is discussed from a developmental psychopathological perspective. It can be concluded that in many cases a serious disorder is accompanied by an unfavourable prognosis. As a consequence, early diagnosis, good diagnostics and treatment, and where possible, prevention, are extremely important.
