An exploration of new equilibrium of the telecommunications market

Résumé

L’économie des télécommunications est actuellement caractérisée par la différenciation des services. Dans cet article, on examine à partir d’hypothèses très simples — mais aussi réalistes que possible — ce que pourrait être cette différenciation dans des situations institutionnelles variées; on montre que la situation la plus efficace serait celle où le monopole technique du réseau est associé avec la production concurrentielle des services.

Abstract

The economy of telecommunications is presently characterized by differentiation of services. This paper explores this differentiation in different institutionnal situations starting from very simple but realistic assumptions. It is established that the most efficient situation should associate a technical monopoly of the network with a competitive supply of services.
