Subclavian vein catheterisation for total parenteral nutrition: A review of 82 cases

Summary

This is a prospective study of 2 years experience of subclavian venous catheterisation for intravenous feeding. A total of 103 catheterisations were performed in 83 patients. There was no mortality related to the catheterisation procedure. The incidence of sepsis was 4%. The incidence of pneumothorax was 4%. Strict formality is advised in establishing and maintaining the subclavian venous catheters.
