Abstract
Thermodynamic calculations of the solubility of N in Cr-Fe-Mo-Ni alloys are presented, and for this purpose, a thermodynamic evaluation of the Fe-Mo-N system has been performed. Phase equilibria in the Fe-Mo-N system are calculated and are compared with experimental data, showing a reasonably good agreement. The evaluation of the Fe-Mo-N system is thereafter combined with thermodynamic evaluations of lower order systems from previous studies to form the Cr-Fe-Mo-Ni-N system. Some phase equilibria in the five-component system are calculated and are compared with experimental information, and a ternary model parameter for the Mo-Ni-N system is evaluated. The present description can reproduce the experimentally determined solubility of N in the five-component system with reasonable accuracy for the face-centered cubic (fcc), e-nitride, and liquid phases.
