Summary

Pales pavida Meig., a tachinid endoparasite, was reared in the laboratory on larvae ofGalleria mellonella L. A juvenile hormone analogue, ZR-515, was applied on the eggs and puparia of the parasite, and on the host caterpillars after parasitization. These treatments did not kill the parasites until just before the emergence of the adultP. pavida. Hormone treatments to puparia (DL-50≃0.05 μg/puparium) caused the highest mortality, while treatments to eggs caused the lowest. Treatment of parasitized caterpillars at dosages above 1 μg/caterpillar caused no damage to parasite larvae, but it prevented emergence ofP. pavida adults.
