Salmonella in the mesenteric lymph nodes of healthy pigs

Summary

Of 503 healthy pigs the mesenteric lymph nodes as well as the feces were examined as to the presence ofSalmonella. In 14 animals (2.78%) the presence of these bacteria in the lymph nodes was established. The testing of all of the samples of feces gave negative results. The following types ofSalmonella were found:S. typhi murium (7 ×),S. dublin (4×),S. enteritidis (1 ×),S. newport (1 ×) andS. give (1 ×).
