The synthesis of S (+)-1-(2-furyl)-3-pentanol (3), a key intermediate in the synthesis of chalcogran (1) is described via microbial reduction of 1-(2-furyl)-1-pentene-3-one (2) using fungusRhizopus arrhizus.
