Postvaccinatie verschijnselen: prikplaatsreacties en reactogeniciteit

Samenvatting

Op een vaccinatieprikplaats kunnen vroege en latere reacties optreden. Vroege reacties (< 1 uur na vaccinatie) hangen samen met het injecteren (meestal ongeacht de vaccinstof). Er kan pijn optreden en hierdoor getriggerde reflectoire verschijnselen. Ook kunnen er bloedinkjes voorkomen. De latere reacties worden veroorzaakt door ontsteking (reactogeniciteit). Bij ontsteking op de prikplaats kunnen ook algemene lichamelijke klachten optreden, zoals koorts en andere algemene verschijnselen. Over deze gewone bijwerkingen geeft dit overzichtsartikel de ‘state-of-the-art’ over processen in de weefsels, welke stoffen daar worden gevormd en welke effecten die kunnen geven. Bij ontsteking op een injectieplaats is er vrijwel nooit sprake van infectie of allergie. Meestal is een symptomatische behandeling voldoende.
