Zusammenfassung

Nach der New-Economy-Krise zu Beginn des Millenniums und der Subprime-Krise in den USA 2007 suchten Finanzakteure neue Renditemöglichkeiten, mit verheerenden Folgen für die Preisstabilität im Agrarbereich und die Ernährungssituation der Bevölkerung in vielen Entwicklungsländern. Im Zuge der Hungerkrise 2008 wird jedoch eine stärkere Regulierung in diesem Bereich wieder zur politischen Möglichkeit. Dieser Beitrag zeigt Trends zu Nahrungsmittelspekulationen sowie Land-Grabbing auf und skizziert aktuelle Reformbestrebungen.

Agricultural Policy and Food Security in the Whirlpool of the Financial Crisis.

Abstract

After the New Economy crisis at the turn of the Millennium and the Subprime Crisis in the US in 2007, short-term financial interests sought new possibilities for rents, with devastating consequences for price stability and nutritional conditions for people in many developing countries. In the course of the food crisis of 2008, however, stricter regulation in this area has become a political possibility. In this article, we discuss trends in food speculation and land grabbing, and sketch current possibilities for reform.
