Abstract

The stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM) enables a tenfold resolution improvement over conventional fluorescence microscopy. This allows virologists for the first time to depict individual virus particles or their components without an electron microscope in their real size. Furthermore, individual viral proteins can be localized more precisely in infected cells. This leads to a better understanding of the mechanisms of viral infections.
