To the Editor
I read with great interest the article by Lopes et al. titled, “High rate of ceramic sandwich liner fracture” , and agree edge loading and impingement could cause mechanical stress and could present clinically by displacing the fractured fragments of the ceramic liner.
However, the authors cited Reference 8 in their article to document the relatively high rate of ceramic bearing surface failure reported in the literature and provided data in Table 4 from the same reference. The observation and data are actually from another article “Ceramic liner fracture after cementless alumina-on-alumina total hip arthroplasty”  and not from the article “Cementless alumina-on-alumina total hip arthroplasty in patients younger than 50 years: a 5-year minimum follow-up study” .
