Abstract
In the current review, we focus on research examining how the construct variously called “fear”, “anxiety” or “worry” is related to cancer. Some research showed that anxious cancer patients experience negative intrusive cognitions that are often associated with feelings of helplessness and would lead to maladaptive coping strategies (rumination, avoidance, etc.) and a high level of anxiety can have negative consequences on their health. They suggest that cancer anxiety (relates to fears of having a cancer or fears that cancer might get worse) can be considered like a specific form of health anxiety. In order to help health caregivers to develop new cognitive-behavioural programs to fight against deleterious forms of cancer anxiety, it is also necessary to know its causes (psychological and contextual).
