Using Multilayer Precursors to Create Nanoporous Gold and Nanoporous Iridium Thin Films with Layered Architecture

Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

Although dealloying is commonly used to fabricate nanoporous (np) metals, with precursor alloy composition and dealloying conditions determining the length scale of ligaments and pores, the technique typically allows limited control over ligament/pore size and design of np geometry. This paper presents a novel approach to creating np metal films with layered structure through the film thickness. This method is demonstrated for Au and Ir alloy films and can successfully control ligament size, spacing, and even orientation.
