We are launching a new initiative entitled 'Highlights in Purinergic Signalling' in this issue of 'Purinergic Signalling'. Its aim is to highlight exciting new publications in the purinergic signalling field and critically evaluate the findings. Peter Illes has agreed to be the first of our Associate Editors to prepare a Highlight and he has recruited Charles Kennedy, a member of our Editorial Board, to prepare the first one. In the future, we plan to ask other members of the Editorial Board with different areas of interest to prepare a continuing series of future Highlights. We hope that our readers will find this new development interesting and informative.
