This issue includes two special sections. The first section is based on extended papers that were originally presented at the Ninth IEEE International Working Conference on Source Code Analysis and Manipulation (SCAM 2009). I would like to thank the guest editors of this special section, Sibylle Schupp and Andrew Walenstein, for all their work in managing the selection and reviews of these papers. The guest editors provide an informative introduction to the selected papers.

The second special section is based on extended papers chosen from those presented at the 2009 Software Quality Management Conference (SQM 2009). I thank the guest editor, Margaret Ross, for all her efforts in managing the selection and reviews of these papers. She has written an interesting overview of these papers.
