Abstract

Synthesis and X-ray structural investigation of hafnium(IV) pivalyltrifluoroacetonate were carried out. Crystallographic data for C32H40F12HfO8 are: a = 19.913(3) Å, b = 11.8764(18) Å, c = 16.530(3) Å; β = 95.538(2)°; space group Cc, Z = 4, dcalc = 1.637 g/cm3, R = 0.035. The structure is molecular; it is composed of discrete mononuclear Hf(ptac)4 molecules connected with each other by van der Waals interactions. The hafnium atom coordinates eight oxygen atoms belonging to four β-diketonate ligands; Hf-O distances are within the range 2.133–2.199 Å.
