The dissertation of Jean Wagemans, Redelijkheid en overredingskracht van argumentatie. Een historisch-filosofische studie over de combinatie van het dialectische en het retorische perspectief op argumentatie in de pragma-dialectische argumentatietheorie, aims at contributing to the ongoing debate within argumentation theory on the relations between the dialectical and rhetorical approach of argumentation. Recently, pragma-dialecticians, insistently refering to the antique rhetorical tradition, have tried to integrate rhetorical insights into the analysis of argumentation. Jean Wagemans clarifies this attempt of pragma-dialectics against the background of antique dialectic and rhetoric.
