Summary

A theoretical analysis for the plane-strain compression of a multi-layer strip of rigid perfectly/plastic materials with Tresca friction conditions at the platen surfaces and bi-material interfaces is described. The analysis focuses on an effect of the input data on the frictional regime (sticking/sliding) at the bi-material interfaces and on qualitative behavior of the solution. Of particular interest is the prediction of a domain in a parametric space corresponding to the process of compression with a proportional decrease in the thickness of all layers.
