It is my pleasure to update you on some recent changes in the editorship of Pflügers Archiv—European Journal of Physiology. On January 1st, the position of Editor-in-Chief of Pflügers passed from me to Bernd Nilius of University of Leuven, Belgium.

Pflügers fills a crucial role in today’s scientific literature, publishing innovative work that focuses on mechanistic insight into basic physiological functions. It also bridges the gap between basic science research and methodological developments. Our new Editor-in-Chief, a world leader in ion channel research (see also online http://www.ionchannels.org/rank.php?rank=first), will certainly guarantee further development of the strengths of our journal.

I would like to thank the dedicated Pflügers team of Executive Editors and Editorial Board members and the many scientists who referee for the journal for their excellent support during the last years. It has been a rewarding experience and pleasure to work with you.
