I am Sue Kaste, program director for ALARA 2008: Oncology. I welcome you on behalf of the Society for Pediatric Radiology, the Safety Committee of the Society, the Office of Rare Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, and the American College of Radiology.

The Society for Pediatric Radiology is committed to minimizing exposures to ionizing radiation while optimizing imaging techniques in pediatrics. This symposium represents the fifth in the series of conferences addressing safety and quality of pediatric imaging. Every 2–3 years the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) has hosted a conference focusing on ALARA (dose “As Low As Reasonably Achievable”) in pediatric imaging:
