Porous polystyrene packings: Characterization through pore structure determination

In this paper the pore structure of several porous polystyrene pearls as used in chromatography is investigated by N2-adsorption and by the “inverse size exclusion chromatography (SEC)” of Halász. The results indicate that only the inverse SEC measurements give valuable information about the polystyrene packing materials although the obtained pore size distribution is too broad. Reasons for the shortcomings of inverse SEC are discussed.
