My research assistant, Deborah C. Hobbs deserves a good deal of credit for methodically and laboriously searching through many years ofIndex Medicus and sending out letters to philosophy departments and medical centers in Canada in order to collect materials. The University of Winnipeg provided funds to support the research that made the project possible. Some materials were also derived from a conference on Canadian philosophy, and I would like to thank Dr. Leslie Armour, The Center for Canadian Philosophy, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada for supporting my part in that conference.
