Abstract

According to their roles in the process of social planning several functional types of social indicators are distinguished. The typology reflects experience with social planning in Czechoslovakia. Descriptive and analytical indicators are used in the diagnostic stage of the planning process; prognostic, programming, planning indicators and social normatives in its programming phase; control indicators and indicators of impact and of effectiveness during the stage of evaluation. Construction, properties and principles of efficient use of these indicator types are briefly discussed.
