Macroscopic quantum tunneling in small- and large-dissipation regimes

Quantum tunneling on a macroscopic scale is investigated in connection with the presence of dissipation. Theoretical results in a form suitable for experimental verification are derived in the regions of small and large friction. In the latter case it is shown that the system loses energy during tunneling, exciting quasiparticle states.
