Geneeskundig onderzoek naar voorzieningen die commercieel niet aantrekkelijk zijn, dreigt achter te blijven bij onderzoek waarmee wel geld valt te verdienen. Dit blijkt uit case studies die de Gezondheidsraad beschrijft in een ethisch signalement,1 waarin wordt uitgelegd welke mechanismen verantwoordelijk zijn voor de dreigende scheefgroei van de medische kennis en wat daartegen te doen is. Onderstaand artikel geeft de hoofdlijnen van het signalement weer voor zover deze van belang zijn voor de huisarts.
