Samenvatting
Familieleden van drugsgebruikers worden veel meer dan vroeger als belangrijke partners in de hulpverlening beschouwd, maar kunnen door hulpverleners ook als dwingend en lastig ervaren worden. In dit artikel benaderen we familieleden als een aparte doelgroep die ook ondersteuning nodig heeft. Deze ondersteuning kan slechts tot stand komen nadat duidelijk is wat de behoeften en verwachtingen zijn. De nadruk ligt niet op het geven van goede inhoudelijke adviezen maar eerder op het realiseren van een betekenisvolle samenwerking met familieleden. Hierbij is het van belang om te zoeken naar doelstellingen die niet alleen zijn gefocust op het stoppen met middelengebruik.
Wanneer in dit hoofdstuk* gesproken wordt over drugsgebruik of -misbruik, verwijzen we zowel naar het gebruik van illegale middelen als het (problematisch) gebruik van alcohol of medicatie.
