Zusammenfassung

Parodontitis, als chronische oder akute Infektion des Zahnhalteapparates, kann sowohl durch einen Anstieg an systemisch wirksamen Entzündungsmediatoren, als auch durch Bakteriämie parodontopathogener Keime Einfluss auf den Gesamtorganismus nehmen. Es wird auf die Zusammenhänge zwischen Parodontitis und vaskulären Erkrankungen, Diabetes mellitus und Schwangerschaftskomplikationen eingegangen. Behandlungsoptionen und mögliche Konsequenzen aus zahnmedizinischer Sicht warden angesprochen.
