Generation of sub-40 fs pulses from a mode-locked dual-gain-media Nd:glass laser

Abstract.

We propose and demonstrate mode locking of a novel dual-gain-media Nd:fluorophosphate and Nd:silicate glass laser. It overcomes the linewidth limitation of a single-medium Nd:glass laser. A pulse bandwidth of 41 nm has been obtained, which is nearly twice as broad as that from a single-medium Nd:glass laser. Wing-free pulses of 38 fs have been generated, which are the shortest from a Nd:glass laser oscillator.
