Abstract
A new species of squid, Kondakovia nigmatullini, is described based on two specimens from sub-Antarctic waters of the Southwest Atlantic. The new species is characterised by short, broad, rhombic fins, long rostrum of the gladius (~13% ML); very weak development or absence of longitudinal ridges on the mantle surface; some reticulate folds on mantle surface; 23–27 club hooks; subequal funnel/mantle components of the locking apparatus, and a tricuspid rachidian, with small lateral cusps.
