About this book

Brazilian Microbiome: Current status and perspectives unites a set of distinguished investigators conducting microbiome research and builds a comprehensive reference book with up-to-date information regarding the Brazilian microbiome studies and trends. It covers terrestrial and host associated microbiomes, unveiling biological, biotechnological and technical aspects of research. This book is devoted to students and professionals interested in learning techniques for microbiome surveys, including culture-independent approaches, and to better understand the biology of microorganisms in nature, with emphasis on the Brazilian microbiomes.

About the editors

Dr. Victor Pylro

Dr. Pylro is a microbial ecologist holding experience on molecular microbial ecology. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences at Federal University of Ouro Preto/Brazil in 2008, and earned his Master's and Ph.D. degrees (Agricultural Microbiology) from Viçosa Federal University/Brazil, with Sandwich Doctorate at Rothamsted Research/UK. He is one of the initiators of the Brazilian Microbiome Project (BMP http://www.brmicrobiome.org). At present, many microbial metagenomic projects underway in Brazil are widely known, and the main BMP goal is to co-ordinate and standardize these, together with future projects. Dr. Pylro is working closely to several Brazilian and International researchers and companies technicians, in order to standardize methods and protocols to be adopted by the BMP. Also, he is the coordinator of the Committee of Knowledge Transfer of the Brazilian Institute of Science and Technology: Microbiome, concerned in the formation of human resources and the transfer of knowledge to society, by developing activities aimed at overcoming educational challenges in Brazil.

Dr. Luiz Roesch

Dr. Roesch is graduated in Agronomy at Federal University of do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (2000), earned his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Soil Sciences with emphasis on Microbiology and Biochemist of Soil at Federal University of do Rio Grande do Sul with sandwich period at University of Florida / Department of Microbiology and Cell Sciences. From 2007 to 2009 he worked at University of Florida as Senior Biological Scientist and currently he is a Professor at Federal University of Pampa – UNIPAMPA,  Brazil. His work is devoted to study microbial community dynamics in ecosystems. His expertises include Next Generation Sequencing, Bioinformatics, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and microbial ecology.
